Hazards of living off the grid

Self reliance and living off the grid are all well and good, but sometimes one gets so caught up in the whole silent desert experience that things are forgotten. Perhaps that's the lesson here, that in order to be self reliant one simply can't afford to forget things. Live life perfectly, or something like that. Case in point:

I have a small inverter that supplies 110 AC when I need it. I usually have it on to power my little TV and satellite receiver and recharge my cell phone and laptop (interesting, ain't it? Here I prattle on about being off the grid and all that shit, but I still like my news) and check out the news and weather while I have dinner. Well, last night I just grabbed a quick sandwich, as I got caught up in admiring the night sky. I'm sure you can fill in the rest of the story. Fortunately my solar setup is pretty stout, so I recovered in short order. But still.....
